Schweitzer Mountain, Sandpoint, Idaho

Free Overnight RV Camping at Schweitzer Mountain (Any Self-Contained RV)

Can you actually camp for free at a major ski resort? Yes. Schweitzer Mountain above Sandpoint, Idaho lets fully self-contained RVs stay up to 3 nights at no charge, and we took the Aerie 8 up to test it properly.

This was a completely unplanned, spur of the moment trip, which is exactly what a truck camper is for. We found the free overnight parking by the firehouse area, watched the sunrise light up Lake Pend Oreille from the top of the mountain, ran the heater all night on less than 20 percent of the battery, and Christian put in a full work day on Starlink from a ski resort parking lot.

The drive up through Sandpoint alone is worth the trip. If you want the rig details behind the off-grid numbers in this video, the Aerie 8 full tour covers the 400Ah lithium and 600W solar setup, and our Starlink Mini mount review covers the internet.
